Emily's Big Boo-Boo

Last Sunday was a normal lazy day as most Sundays are for our family, that was until Emily had her first big boo-boo and we had to rush her to the emergency room.  Mommy was watching in amazement as Avery crawled from the living room to the kitchen and back.  Emily was playing with toys and "reading" books beside me when she decided to climb on the sofa behind me and jump from one end to the next.  Recently, she has been climbing on eveything without a thought that she may fall and hurt herself.  It doesn't matter how many times we tell her, "Emily, sit down or you are going to fall", she keeps on going as if we were encouraging her to get hurt.

During one of her jumps she midjudged her strength and went over the side of the sofa, smacked her head on the side table, and then landed on our tile floor with an enormous thud.  A loud wail came next followed by me rushing to her aid.  I thought she was fine but it wasn't until Daddy looked at her and said "Whoa" with a look of astonishment on his face that I knew something was wrong.  After sitting Emily down and examining her, it looked as if she may have slightly cut her ear, but after wiping some of the blood away and then taking a closer look, I realized that she split the top of her ear flap and it would probably need stitches to heal.

So here we go to the local emergency room with two kids in tow.  Emily didn't seem to be bothered with her wound and wasn't crying until the nurse walked into the examining room.  She already has a phobia about nurses and doctors and so she cried fully aware that they were going to cause her pain.  After taking a look at the cut the doctor confirmed it was going to require stitches and that we would have to sedate Emily in order to do the procedure because of inability to cooperate.

After two doses of a sedative that just made her drunk with happiness instead of knocking her out, the doctor decided to go ahead with the procedure.  It took four adults to hold her down until the doctor was finished with stitching her up.  Three hours and $150 later we were back at home with our child that acted as if nothing happened at all.  Emily was back to normal and ran straight to her toys to play.  Lesson learned:  Kids will be kids and they will get boo-boos even when you do everything in your power to watch them.

Avery's First Crawl

Emily's Masterpiece

Emily's first "wall" masterpiece
It finally happened!!  Emily wrote on the wall, well not actually, but she did take her crayons and draw all over mom's pantry door.  Thank goodness Crayola has washable crayons.  A damp sponge was all I needed to wipe off all she had done.  If it were really on my walls I would have had a fit because flat wall paint is no friend of crayons.

Avery at 9 Months Old

My tiny baby is now 9 months old and there are many new developments and milestones accomplished.  Avery had her 9 month wellness checkup and came in at 16 lbs. 4 oz. and 27 in. long.  She is progressing right on the average curve and according to her doctor is very healthy and moving right on track with her development.

Avery can pull up from a lay down to a sit down to a stand up poistion with assistance and is now starting to pull herself up to a standup position while holding on to stationary objects such as a coffee table.  We had a huge milestone accomplishment this past week when Avery crawled for the first time.  Her Nonna was holding a doll she was determined to get a hold of and before we knew it she put one hand forward and then another and then her little legs followed and it was as if a light bulb went off in her head and she grasped the idea of crawling.  That little light was all she needed and now she is crawling all over the place and she is loving getting where she wants to go instead of being stuck in one place.  Emily likes that sister can get around now as well although maybe for other reasons.  I caught Emily trying to ride Avery like a horse.  Avery wasn't so happy about that little stunt.

Avery hasn't said "mama" or "dada" yet but she is babbling multiple syllables now including papapa, bababa, and nanana. She also makes a growling sound whenever she grabs something she has her eye on or accomplishes a task.  According to her teacher she doesn't growl at school which I find funny because she is constantly doing it at home.

Avery's appetite has grown a little and new food items are being introduced daily.  She still eats baby food but has graduated to the second stage (larger containers) and can eat Gerber Puffs (baby cereal) as a snack.  Fruits are still on the "don't like" list and vegetables are her favorite. Daddy is introducing table food at dinner time and sometimes there are hits but most of the time it's a miss.  I don't think Avery likes the texture of most foods.  Another milestone was accomplished the other day when Avery picked up sister's sippy cup and started drinking from it without assistance.  She loved it so much she laughed everytime she got water out of it.  So much effort put into a new task wore her out and she stated falling asleep at the table with the cup in her hand and in her mouth.  Avery is still teething but hasn't had another tooth pop out.  I predict the top two will be next and will probably make entry in the next couple of months.

With so many milestones hit this month I'm sure Avery will be up and walking soon and then I'll have two babies going in different directions.  I better start working out or else these two will have mommy worn out.

First time with a sippy cup
Falling asleep with her cup
Playing with her table
Loving that she can stand at her table
Standing up by the rocking chair
She now hates having bows on her head.  This is the best I could do.

Emily Riding in her Jeep

Ever since daddy bought the girls their Jammin' Jeep, we have had a little trouble with Emily learning how to keep her foot on the accelerator.  The Jeep is recomended for children ages 3-6 so it's understandable that she doesn't understand that she has to have constant pressure on the accelerator to keep going.  She also has a little trouble steering as she always wants to hold on to the "window shield" bar.  Avery is starting to like the ride, at first she was a little scared, but once she's buckled in she has fun riding with her big sister. This past weekend Emily started to pick on the idea of constant foot pressure and her Aunt Alyssa filmed a small video of her finally riding by herself.  Of course, at the end you'll hear a little excitement from Auntie because Emily was headed straight for the garden.  I don't think she would have loved a car crash.

Mother's Day 2011

I am so blessed and happy to be the mother of two wonderful little girls.  This past Mother's Day my mom took my babies to San Antonio so I could get the weekend to clean house, relax and also cook a Mother's Day lunch for our fantastic mothers.  Everything turned out great and we all had a wonderful Mother's Day.  Thank you Ama and Nonna for all the wonderful things that you do for our family...you are the strength and the light that keeps our families going strong and filled with love.
