Avery at 22 Months Old

We are finally in the midst of potty training Avery and she is doing remarkably well for just starting out.  Emily has been loosely potty training for the past year and she is now at the stage where she wants to potty at home just as she does at school.  Observing Emily on the potty has peaked Avery's interest and she has started to want to potty train like her big sister.  Last week after finishing up her diapers I started buying her training pants for home and school.  She loves her big girl pants!  Recently she has also wanted to start sitting on the potty at school.  The only problem is Avery likes to sit on the toilet for long periods of time.  Once, at home, she sat for 10 minutes before she finally did her business, but I was so proud of her and now she is getting the idea of the sensation of having to go potty, better than her big sister understands.  There have been many occasions when Avery has said, "Mommy I potty" and I've taken her to the toilet where she proceeded to potty.  At school its a little different.  The teacher can't let Avery sit on the potty for long periods of time understandably so Avery has gotten a little upset at having to be taken off the potty.  Then 5 minutes later she will go in her training pant.  I can understand her frustration.

Speaking of frustrations, along with potty training, Avery has started to throw tantrums.  They don't last very long but when they do arrive it isn't a pretty sight and I have learned to try and ignore them which leads Avery to quit whining.  She has learned to kick, grunt, or hit when she isn't happy.  I don't like these phases but they come with learning how to show or deal with emotions.

Aside from the tantrums Avery is doing quite well in school and is learning so much information from her big sister as well.  I can hear her count by herself sometimes and sing songs along with Emily.  She plays well with her sister and loves to play with her baby dolls.  The girls have a wonderful relationship and I hope that continues well into the future.
