Avery at 17 Months Old

Petite and sassy are two words that I would use to describe our youngest child.  Avery is at the point in her life where she understands the word "no" but doesn't pay too much attention to it unless she is using it on others.  Her low monotone voice makes it hard to get upset at her when you ask her to do something and she curtly says "No!"  Emily gets so upset when she gives her little sister directions and she doesn't pay attention.  Avery is just her own little person and does things only when she wants to do them.  Even though she is quiet she has her moments and can get a little loud at times.  This usually happens at the dinner time when she decides to yell at different tones while we all eat.

Avery has started using more words and is very good at quickly picking up on new words from Emily.  She is still as quiet as a mouse most of the time which is bad for us.  If it gets too quiet around that means that Avery is into something that she shouldn't be getting into.  Her curiousity is as high as ever and I constantly have to keep my eyes and ears open so she isn't pulling objects out of sockets or worse trying to stick something into them.  Most of our sockets are child proofed but there are some that have lights in them that she loves to grab.

Right now Avery's favorite movie is Happy Feet and she is also currently getting into Dora the Explorer.  Avery's teacher Ms. Whitney tells me that Avery is blossoming at school and is currently the only student who remembers all the hand gestures to the songs they sing in class.  She dictates which song the class will sing that day by shaking her head no or nodding yes to the song Ms. Whitney starts to sing.  At the moment she can do hand gestures to Baby Bumblebee, Wheels on the Bus and Head Should Knees and Toes.  She likes to dance and even has an admirer who follows her all over the playground.  She even let him (little Bentley) give her a kiss.  So sweet!
